Scottish brand Fabrics

We are fortunate in Scotland to have brands who make such beautiful, high-quality products, so it is no surprise they are some of the most popular in the shop with our customers!

Sustainable & Local

We love to support local and small businesses and are conscious about sustainability and keeping our fabric mileage as low as possible. After all, the most significant commitment we can all make to sustainability is to buy less and better.

About our beautifully crafted, high-quality fabrics, which we stock and are made to last and will biodegrade naturally when they finally reach the end of their life.

Isle Mill & Harris Tweed Fabrics

Both The Isle Mill and Harris Tweed are as local as they get to us, with Isle Mill fabrics made in Keith (just 17 miles from our shop) and Harris Tweed made on the Isle of Harris since the 19th century.

Combining the finest natural fibres with time-honoured techniques, these brands produce the best of what Scotland offers – tactile, soft, breathable, warm, colourful, sustainable and adaptable.

Customed Designed Fabrics

From classic paisleys, plaids and tweeds to contemporary textured plains, damasks and the finest sheers. The natural splendour and breathtaking colours of the surrounding Scottish Highlands and Islands inspire their collections.

Expert Weaving Techniques

We love both brands’ unwavering commitment and loyalty to keeping traditional techniques and processes localised to Scotland. As such, the land and people are woven into the fabric of the cloth, reflecting as it does the colours of the landscapes, the beauty of our vistas and the values of their people.

Crafted to Perfection

Once warped and woven, their highly skilled mending team hand-inspected and hand-mended all the fabrics. The fabric is then finished, consisting of dyeing, washing and scouring, pressing or cropping. Fabric is finished to a standard specified by the design team on behalf of our customers.

Power of recycling

We are delighted to stock a fantastic range of RECYCLED polyester – plastic bottle fabrics!

These fabrics are so soft and hang beautifully as curtains. Initially, we were a bit unsure of the quality they may be, but we love them here at Interior Inspirations. Choosing sustainable fabrics contributes to a greener way of living and helps to care for our planet.

How are they made?

Starting their lives as plastic bottles, recycled fabric ranges help reduce harmful waste. Just one pound of recycled polyester fibre saves 10 plastic bottles from landfill, which otherwise would take 450 years to decompose.

What are the benefits?
  • Recycling 1 ton of recyclable plastic containers saves 5.7 square meters of landfill space.
  • The process of making recycled polyester uses 90% less water than standard polyester.
  • Recycled Polyester requires 70% less energy than virgin fiber production
  • 1kg of recycled plastic can keep 60 water bottles out of landfill.
  • 51 billion plastic bottles go into landfill annually worldwide.

Organic & BCI Cotton

What is organic cotton?

Organic Cotton production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Notably, organic cotton farming combines tradition, innovation, and science to benefit the shared environment and promote a good quality of life for all involved.

What is BCI cotton?

Better Cotton Initiative is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton.

Their vision of a sustainable world, where cotton farmers and workers know how to cope with climate change, environmental threats, and even global pandemics. A new generation of cotton farming communities will be able to make a decent living, have a strong voice in the supply chain and meet growing consumer demand for more sustainable cotton.

BENEFITS OF USING ORGANIC/BCI COTTON

Organic cotton feels nicer to the touch; it also looks better and hangs very well when used as curtains or Roman blinds. Not only that, but it’s less harmful to homeowners who may have problems with sensitive skin.

  • No chemicals are used to grow organic cotton to help reduce our environmental footprint.
  • 80% of organic cotton is rain-fed, helping to reduce the pressure on local water sources.
  • Its production keeps farmers and their families safe as they are not exposed to toxic chemicals.
  • When choosing organic cotton, you invest in water conservation, cleaner air, better soil and farmer livelihoods.
  • The process uses 91% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton.
